Hi! I’m Melissa Mata, A.K.A Ms. Honey-Bee, the lead teacher and owner of The Math Hive and our local Arizona Homeschool Hive. I'll be your child’s personal math tutor. Once you join, I will stay in close contact to ensure your child feels supported and that you have a wonderful experience every step of the way.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of being a teacher. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Educational Policy from Arizona State University. I have over 20 years of tutoring experience, ranging from pre-k to college, and seven years of classroom teaching to elementary and middle schoolers. I am certified with the state of Arizona and hold a middle school mathematics endorsement. I’m passionate about creating an environment where math is demystified and children become confident math learners.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy road trips and finding great deals to share with others.
Now, I get the joy of teaching your child online—and I truly can’t wait to learn and grow together!

While every tutoring experience is different, the little hive has crafted a curriculum that harnesses the power of digital tools to boost learning, and the core hive uses Nearpods to help monitor students' progress in tutoring. We create content, ensuring your child gets the benefits of an in-person tutoring group, right at home.
Hive Scholars FULL Plan students receive access to our highly-regarded online math intervention program, which is directly connected to the diagnostic assessment we use. This allows your tutor to continuously track progress, identify skill gaps, and adjust instruction with precision. Because students work in the program outside of live sessions, we can use our tutoring time more intentionally—building on what they’re learning, reinforcing key skills, and adding targeted lessons that align with their current needs. This creates a more personalized, efficient, and results-driven learning experience.
We utilize a trusted program called Let’s Go Learn (learn more about it here), but what makes it powerful is how we use the data to personalize your child’s instruction each week.
For those in the Little Hive Scholars FULL Plan, It is a one-time $125 registration fee to add the Let's Go Learn program to your plan

Math Hive offers both 10-month and 2-month summer sessions. Our schedule generally follows a traditional school-year rhythm, including fall, winter, and spring breaks, as well as shorter summer breaks. A full list of “no school” days is provided above.
Tuition is prorated across either 10 or 2 (for summer sessions) equal monthly payments, depending on your selected plan. This means your monthly payment remains the same regardless of the number of sessions in a given month.
Tuition is billed at the beginning of each month, and payment secures your child’s scheduled time and reserved spot in the program.
No. We may suggest items that can help your child, such as a mouse if they are using a laptop; however, nothing is required.
